Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert, a duo for years, took this moving satire with a touch of the metaphysical into competition at Venice. Alec Utgoff plays a Ukrainian masseur with a whole gated estate near Warsaw on his table, and Ostaszewska, Kulesza and Chyra around him.
Zhenia crosses into Poland carrying a folding massage table and gets his residence permit with barely any trouble. He finds his way to a gated estate of identical white houses outside Warsaw, home to people who are rich and unhappy, and one by one they start booking him. Under his hands they drift off to sleep and say things they would never say awake.
