Wojciech Smarzowski tells a wrenching story of doomed love with Agata Kulesza and Marcin Dorociński, as a man who still carries the pain of losing his wife in the war and the Masurian widow of a Wehrmacht soldier. Their love grows the way a flower does, up through the ruins.
In the summer of 1945, Polish settlers are moving into Masuria, a land that has only just stopped being German, and Róża, a Masurian, is left alone on the farm that belonged to her husband, a Wehrmacht soldier. Tadeusz, a Home Army officer who fought in the Warsaw Uprising, comes to her door with the dead man’s belongings, and she asks him to stay the night. Then looters pull up outside the house.
