In March 1984, in the waters off the south coast of Iceland, Gulli heads out with four friends on a small fishing boat. The catch is poor, and when the net snags on the seabed the boat capsizes so fast that nobody has time to send a signal. A few of the men scramble onto the hull, but the sea takes them one by one. Peering into the darkness, Gulli spots a light on the island and starts to swim towards it.
