Down by Law
- Jim Jarmusch
- 1986
- 1h 47m
- USA, West Germany
“We all scream for ice-cream” and genuine surrealism by Jarmusch in the most famous film of his first decade, almost designed to turn into a cult spectacle for his audience in the years to come. John Lurie, Tom Waits, Roberto Benigni are marvelous as ordinary but totally fresh everyday heroes.
Synopsis
Jack and Zack both unjustly end up in the same dirty cell of a New Orleans prison, when Roberto comes in, an Italian immigrant that speaks English poorly and just repeats whatever he hears. Contrary to the other two, Roberto is a true criminal, and one day he tells them he has watched a movie that will help them escape prison.
