Thirty years after Europa Europa, three-time Oscar nominee Agnieszka Holland directs one of her most politically direct works, a powerful exploration that raises urgent moral questions with striking immediacy. Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Synopsis

In the swampy forests forming the “green border” between Belarus and Poland, refugees attempting to reach the EU are trapped in a crisis cynically orchestrated by Belarusian dictator Lukashenko. Lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage into Europe, they become pawns in a geopolitical “war.” The lives of Julia, an activist who has left behind her comfortable existence, Jan, a young border guard, and a Syrian family intertwine in a deeply human story of compassion and survival.
