Two enemy soldiers share a trench with a wounded man lying on a primed mine between them, and nobody outside is in any hurry to help. Danis Tanović, who ran the Bosnian army’s film archive for the first two years of the war, won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film with his first feature.
Midway through the war in Bosnia, two soldiers from opposite sides find themselves trapped together in a trench between the front lines. Next to them the wounded Cera lies on his back on a mine that will go off as soon as he moves. When the peacekeepers turn up, the cameras are right behind them.
