Jaco Van Dormael (“The Brand New Testament”) won the Caméra d’Or at Cannes with this wild debut about an ageing man still fixated on the fire in the maternity ward on the night he was born. Thomas thinks the baby in the next cot got his life, and he’s been plotting revenge since he was eight.
On the night fire breaks out in a maternity ward and the nurses carry the newborns out in their arms, Thomas and Alfred are born in the same minute. Alfred grows up rich and Thomas poor, and Thomas is convinced they were swapped in all the confusion. He blames Alfred for everything that goes wrong in his life, and he has a plan.
