Stellan Skarsgård, as only he can, drives a snowplough and keeps count of the bodies in a revenge thriller as black as the Norwegian snow is white, with a dose of Scandinavian humour. Hollywood remade it a few years later with Liam Neeson, but the original is still the better film.
Winter in Norway means long days on the snowplough for a quiet, hard-working man who has just been named citizen of the year. Then his son dies of a heroin overdose. He doesn’t buy the official story and sets out to find answers himself, and the trail leads him straight to those responsible.
