Stellan Skarsgård played the sleepless cop first, five years before Al Pacino took the role in Christopher Nolan’s remake. In Tromsø the summer sun never sets, and a Swedish detective arrives to solve the killing of a teenage girl, only to find he soon has something to hide himself.
It’s midsummer in the Norwegian town of Tromsø, and the sun never leaves the sky. A seventeen-year-old girl has been found dead, and two policemen come to investigate. Jonas Engström sets a trap for the killer, but in the fog he fires and hits his own partner, Erik Vik. He covers his tracks so that the blame falls on the murderer and carries on with the case, but now he can’t sleep.
