Park Chan-wook’s wild revenge thriller won the Grand Prix at Cannes from a jury led by Quentin Tarantino, and it’s been a cult film ever since: brutal, gripping and striking to look at. Its hero is armed with nothing but a hammer, and still he’s impossible to forget.
In Seoul in 1988, a drunk Oh Dae-su is raising hell in a police cell when a friend comes to collect him, but somewhere on the way home he vanishes. He wakes in a locked room with nothing but a bed and a television, which tells him that his wife is dead and the police are after him. Fifteen years later the door opens, and he has five days to find out why he was locked up.
