Where Do We Go Now?

Why we chose it

Nadine Labaki (“Caramel”) takes us to a village with one church and one mosque, where the women will do anything to keep the peace. Her moving film about women’s strength, tolerance and the pointlessness of war has you laughing out loud one minute and fighting back tears the next.

Synopsis

Ringed by a minefield, a village in the Lebanese mountains has been home to Christians and Muslims, side by side, for generations. When fighting breaks out elsewhere in the country, the women sabotage the village’s only television so the men won’t hear about it. And when that trick stops working, they ship in a busload of Ukrainian dancers, bake hashish into the biscuits and make every gun in the village disappear.
