Not very far from our part of the world, there are societies with deeply rooted conservative mindsets that only brave souls can change. An astounding true story of female empowerment from Kosovo, that triumphed at this year’s Sundance Festival, taking home three awards.
Synopsis
Fahrije’s husband has been missing since the war broke out in Kosovo and his family has to deal with the financial burden along with their grief. In order to help, Fahrije starts a small farming business, but in the traditional patriarchal society where she lives, her ambitions and efforts for empowerment are treated negatively. She fights, not only for her family’s survival, but for her own as well, against a hostile community that’s rooting for her to fail.
