You’ll love the smell of napalm in the morning. Francis Ford Coppola moved Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” to Vietnam and sent Martin Sheen into a hell with Marlon Brando at its centre. The shoot was a disaster, but it gave the world a legend, a Palme d’Or and eight Oscar nominations.
Captain Willard is carrying out an order that officially doesn’t exist: travel upriver into Cambodia and kill Colonel Kurtz, a Special Forces officer who has turned against the army and stands accused of murder. Willard boards a Navy patrol boat, and with every mile he drifts further from anything he recognises. Kurtz is still somewhere ahead.
