Britain's unmistakable brand of social realist cinema welcomes a new director, Georgia Oakley, in an impressive debut feature about homophobia in Thatcherite England, based on a solid script that turns it into something bigger than a protest film.
Synopsis
In 1988 England, Margaret Thatcher's conservative government is preparing to pass a law that will stigmatise gays and lesbians. This forces Jean, a gym teacher, to live a double life. As pressure mounts on all sides, the arrival of a new student becomes the trigger for a crisis that will test Jean beyond belief.
