Synopsis
In 1994, a team of scientists discovered a cave in the South of France that had been perfectly preserved for more than 20,000 years and contained the oldest known human paintings. Aware of the cultural importance of the Chauvet Cave, the French government immediately cut off all access to it, except for a few archaeologists and paleontologists. For this documentary, Herzog was granted limited access allowing us to enter the cave and admire works of art created 32,000 years ago.
