Heaven is in the sky and hell beneath the ground. One of the best existential documentaries ever made, Patricio Guzmán's study of the dichotomy between ignorance of the unknown and the sad knowledge of political events that shook Chile, brings history and astronomy closer than ever.
Synopsis
In Chile's Atacama Desert, at an altitude of three thousand feet, astronomers from all over the world gather to observe the stars. The desert's sky is a place where the harsh heat of the sun "falls" on human existence, which remains intact: on mummies, miners and explorers... as well as on the political prisoners of the dictatorship; and while astronomers examine the farthest galaxies, just below the observatories, women dig through the desert in search of their missing relatives.
