Son of Saul

An unknown Hungarian filmmaker initially stunned the Cannes audiences and then the entire planet, by making a film about the Holocaust that resembles no other. An astonishing directorial debut and, undoubtedly, one of the best films of this century.

Synopsis

October 1944, Auschwitz-Birkenau. Saul is a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando, the group of Jewish prisoners forced to assist the Nazis in the apparatus of large-scale executions. While working in one of the crematoria, Saul discovers the body of a boy who he believes is his own child. While the Sonderkommando plans a rebellion, Saul decides to carry out an impossible task: save the boy's body from the flames, find a Rabbi to perform funeral rituals and bury him properly.
