Punishment is the only answer at this boarding school until a new teacher turns up and starts a choir. It earned Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Song, and the singing comes from a Lyon boys’ choir whose thirteen-year-old soloist goes straight to the heart.

Synopsis

Clément Mathieu is a composer nobody has ever heard of, and he hasn’t written a note in a long time. In 1949 he takes a job supervising difficult boys at a French boarding school, where the headmaster meets every problem with punishment. On his very first night, he hears the boys singing in the dormitory.
