The best known of the five films made by Hungarian André de Toth before he went to Hollywood was made in 1938, but it reveals a still modern and pioneering filmmaker and a strikingly contemporary and timely look at the power of female solidarity.

Synopsis

Two girls escape from a small village and meet on the streets of Budapest. They move in together, supporting each other at every stage of their ever-changing financial situation, the advances of promiscuous men and their amorous adventures.
