Why we chose it

Kore-eda (“Shoplifters”) directs a screenplay that won at Cannes, telling the same week three times, through the eyes of a mother, a teacher and a child. The mother is sure her son’s teacher has hurt him, but the truth is more complicated, and the music is among the last Ryuichi Sakamoto wrote.

Synopsis

Saori is raising her son Minato alone when she notices a change in his behaviour and finds injuries on him that she can’t explain. From what the boy tells her, the blame lies with his teacher, so she takes it to the school. But there is something Minato hasn’t told her.
