The film that brought Yiorgos Lanthimos his third consecutive Cannes award and consolidated his place as one of the most vital and provocative filmmakers in the world. A clinical, morbid interpretation of an ancient Greek tragedy in the form of an agonizing thriller.
Synopsis
A preeminent cardiac surgeon and an established ophthalmologist live (probably) happily with their two children, a teenage girl and a 12-year-old boy. The doctor has developed a friendship with a teenage boy whose father has died and has since been under the physician’s protection. Things take a disastrous turn when he introduces him to his family; the boy will force him to choose between an extreme sacrifice or lose everything.
