It's never too late for one final standing ovation. In his warm and deeply charming directorial debut, Dustin Hoffman assembles an extraordinary ensemble of British actors, led by the incomparable Maggie Smith, in a heartfelt celebration of friendship, forgiveness and the enduring power of music.
The arrival of former opera diva Jean Horton at Beecham House, a retirement home for musicians, throws its residents into turmoil. Most unsettled of all is her ex-husband Reginald, who has never quite recovered from her long-ago betrayal. As their fellow residents persuade Jean to perform in a gala production of "Rigoletto", she hesitates, painfully aware that her voice is no longer what it once was.
